His distinguished career includes the development of world-renowned gardens and infrastructure for organisations such as the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, the Royal Horticultural Society, and the National Trust. His return to Eden marks a homecoming to both Cornwall and an organisation he has been deeply connected to since its inception.

This is Andy’s second tenure at the Eden Project, having previously served as Head of Research and Evaluation during its early years. From 2001, when Eden first opened its doors, Andy played a pivotal role in quantifying and communicating its transformative social and economic impact on Cornwall. His work helped establish Eden as a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and regeneration, not only in the South West but across the UK.

Andy's career

Andy’s career has taken him across the globe, driving the transformation of garden visitor attractions and championing horticultural excellence. As Director of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Hawaii, he masterminded a capital investment programme that redefined the South Shore gardens of Kauai. At the Royal Horticultural Society, he directed the landmark strategic investment programme at RHS Garden Wisley, creating a world-class destination that reflects the RHS’s vision for the future of horticulture. His tenure as Director of Gardens and Parklands at the National Trust saw him oversee 500 years of horticultural heritage across 222 sites, safeguarding their legacy while embracing innovative approaches to audience engagement.

Beyond the UK, Andy has also delivered transformative horticultural projects overseas, including the revitalisation of one of South Africa’s oldest wineland estates, the Atelier Gardens in Berlin, and impactful work with Bertha Earth. His international advisory roles have consistently demonstrated his commitment to balancing exceptional visitor experiences with sustainable growth and infrastructure development.

A proud Cornishman, Andy grew up in the far west of Penwith and has always been dedicated to fostering sustainable tourism and job creation in his home county. His passion for the South West extends beyond Eden; he was instrumental in founding the South West Tourism Alliance, an organisation that continues to thrive today, championing the region as a leader in UK tourism.

Now back at Eden, Andy is relishing the opportunity to build on its reputation as a global leader in horticulture and a driving force for tourism in Cornwall and the South West. He brings a visionary approach to his role, blending his passion for gardens, people, and sustainability to ensure Eden’s continued evolution as a beacon of inspiration and innovation.

When not shaping Eden’s future, Andy enjoys reconnecting with Cornwall’s unique landscapes and nurturing his own love of gardening, celebrating the natural beauty that has always been at the heart of his journey.
