Take a peek at the programme:
Session 1: Why bother? And getting started! The power and potential of outdoor learning and nature-based pedagogy. What is the evidence and how is outdoor learning perceived by DfE and OFSTED? What is going on with the DFE Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy and the National Education Nature Park? We’ll share our Top-Tips and lots of simple activity ideas for getting started.
Session 2: The primary curriculum outside. Whether you come from a subject specific ‘thematic’ pedagogy or enquiry led ‘topic’ pedagogy, this session will consider how you can embed immersive and experiential outdoor learning into your planning and practice, and entice your colleagues outside too. We’ll share our approach at Eden Project, and some inspiring case studies from Eden and beyond.
Session 3: Grounds for Change. Our key message is to just start with whatever you’ve got: don’t wait until you have designed the best grounds ever. In this session, we will explore some high impact and low-cost strategies for enhancing your outside spaces for better learning, play and nature-connection. We will look at nature and communication-friendly school grounds, along with some excellent examples of grounds-led learning.
Session 4: Children leading outdoors: participation, play and wellbeing. How can your school grounds and local natural spaces support the physical, mental and social health of you and your children and enable your pupils and community to become actors rather than spectators? We will delve into different approaches, discuss the importance of play, and explore all things risky.
