From May 28 to June 5, visitors will be able to follow an all-new and interactive Create-a-Buzz trail and learn how to make their own bee-friendly garden.
On arrival they will also receive a free family pack full of pollinator-friendly games and activities inspired by the launch of Pollinator Pathmaker at Eden, a major new 55-metre-long living artwork created by Alexandra Daisy Ginsberg.
The unique artwork explores the vital role of pollinators. It is in a dramatic setting, positioned on a sloping bank near the top of the former clay quarry and facing the world-famous Eden Biomes.
Pollinator Pathmaker comprises 7,000 plants from 64 species and seeks to challenge who a garden is for. By half-term it will be blooming and ready for both the ‘human’ public and pollinating species - including bees, moths, beetles, and wasps - to engage with and enjoy.
Meanwhile, anyone in Northern Europe can now be a part of Pollinator Pathmaker by planting their own garden at home; in a window box, in a garden, with their community, school or friends. This can be kickstarted by creating a garden plan at pollinator.art.
Pollinator Pathmaker was originally commissioned by the Eden Project with the support of Garfield Weston Foundation as part of Create a Buzz. Additional partners include Gaia Art Foundation and collaborators Google Arts & Culture.
Elsewhere, adding to the half-term entertainment will be CBBC Blue Peter Gardener Lee Connelly, also known as The Skinny Jean Gardener. Lee will be bringing his acclaimed Gardening Entertainment Show to the Mediterranean Biome from Monday to Friday.
Visitors will be able learn from Lee how to grow their own produce, look after wildlife and have fun in the garden, all while playing family games with the opportunity to win prizes.
Throughout the week, Eden will be celebrating Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with whole range of creative craft activities and a chance to take part in a huge collaborative artwork.
The major moment will be on Sunday June 5, where Eden will hold its very own Big Jubilee Lunch. For this day only and as part of the official celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee, Eden is opening its doors to the community and offering free entry to enable everyone to come together and take part in The Big Jubilee Lunch.
Kate Francis, Producer with Eden Live Productions, said: “With the launch of Pollinator Pathmaker, appearances from The Skinny Jean Gardener and the build up to The Big Jubilee Lunch, May half-term will be an extremely exciting and fun time to visit Eden.
“We have always prided ourselves as being a hub for the local community and with June 5 also being World Environment Day, it is only fitting that we are inviting everyone to come and celebrate The Big Jubilee Lunch with us and their loved ones free of charge. It promises to be a very special week and an extra-special day on June 5.”
