The Eden Project is to remain closed to visitors into the New Year for safety reasons following last weekend’s flooding and landslips.

Managers at Eden have made the decision to extend the closure after further assessments of the damage to the site and say the earliest it could reopen is January 6, 2021.

Eden was closed early on Sunday (December 20) as a safety precaution after high volumes of rainwater caused three landslips on the side of the former quarry and damaged the road above it.

Work has continued to pump out excess water and survey the full extent of the damage and required repairs.

A spokesman said that Eden was very sorry to disappoint all visitors who had planned to attend over the Christmas and New Year period but the safety of visitors and staff remained top priority.

He added that the team at the project were grateful for the many messages of support from the public since the closure.

Ticketholders for the days Eden is closed will be automatically refunded.

Visitors are asked to check on the website www.edenproject.com and on Eden’s social media channels for further updates as to when the project will be able to reopen.
