- Preparation for the planning application begins with submission of a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to Dundee City Council
- An extensive consultation process which will include face-to-face public engagement sessions and online feedback tools will commence shortly
- The Eden Project will work with the people, businesses and institutions of Dundee to transform the city’s former gasworks into the “earthworks”
This process is being presented as an opportunity for the city of Dundee to help shape the planning application and act as a co-creator of Eden Project Dundee.
The development of Eden Project Dundee has been informed and influenced by extensive work with groups and residents in the city. The formal process of public consultation on which Eden is now embarking is a continuation of this collaboration.
There will be three in-person community meetings across the city ahead of submission:
- Wednesday July 26 at Arthurstone Library
- Friday August 18 at Douglas Community Centre
- Wednesday September 13 at the Ardler Complex
The Eden Project will also be providing the opportunity for online feedback. To allow all the residents of Dundee the opportunity to engage with the project there may be further consultation events added if demand is high.
The community events will give people an opportunity to hear the latest from Eden Project leaders and provide detailed feedback over a range of subjects.
The Eden Project has sent a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to Dundee City Council which kickstarts the planning process. The planning application is due to be submitted to Dundee City Council once the summer consultation has concluded.
The planning application will show the latest work on Eden Project Dundee and outline details of the design of the buildings, the visitor experience and how the project will interact with and enhance its immediate surroundings.

We hope that the community is as excited as we are for this opportunity to formally contribute to the development process.”
Dundee City Council leader Councillor John Alexander said: “This is another important milestone in a world-class project which will deliver hundreds of jobs, huge visitor numbers and tens of millions of pounds into the local economy.
“And it’s so much more than that too, with tremendous opportunities for education, inspiration and connecting our diverse communities.
“Although it will attract people from far and wide, Eden is very much for the people of Dundee. So it’s really important that citizens and communities can have their say and co-create what will be a truly incredible facility.”
Professor Iain Gillespie, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee, said: “This is another exciting step along the way to bringing the Eden Project to life in Dundee. The planning process is an opportunity for everyone in the city to engage with the project, which promises to be a major addition to Dundee.”
Eden Project Dundee will be a landmark development for the city, transforming the former gasworks on East Dock Street into a beacon for regeneration and green tourism. It will encourage visitors to think, feel and act differently by revealing how we can learn from and be inspired by nature.
The project will combine exhibits, performance, learning, play, immersive experiences, world-class horticulture, live music, art, and food, beverage and retail spaces, all integrated as essential parts of the overall experience.
Work to create an Eden Project on this site would include the conversion of the existing gasholder, demolition of other buildings on the site and the construction of a pedestrian bridge.
The project is inspired by Dundee’s Nine Incorporated Trades and will introduce a new set of contemporary Guilds. These Guilds will be underpinned by the perspectives and skills needed for a regenerative future.
Guild Embassies – both physical and virtual - will be rooted in communities and enable activities that will be brought together and showcased at the main attraction.

The submission of the planning application will draw to an end the latest phase of development for Eden Project Dundee, which was made possible by a £7.6m commitment from the project partners.
