The visit marked the start of the Minister’s tour across the country for National Apprenticeship Week.
National Apprenticeship Week is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of apprentices around the country and the positive impact they make to communities, businesses, and the wider economy.
The Eden Project is committed to developing young people and offers a wide range of apprenticeships, each providing an opportunity to work at the world-famous project while studying for a nationally recognised qualification.
The Minister visited Eden’s new state-of-the-art nursery complex, Growing Point, where he was hosted by Eden’s Chief People and Culture Officer Dawn George and Eden’s Training Officer Greg Richards.
During the visit, the Minister sat down with a number of Eden Project apprentices, where he heard about their experiences as well as their achievements and hopes for the future.
The apprentices then took the Minister on a tour of Growing Point, where he saw first-hand the work being done by Eden’s horticulture apprentices and the wider team.
Robert Halfon said: “It was wonderful to kick off National Apprenticeship Week with a visit to the incredible Eden Project to meet with talented apprentices working in horticulture, arboriculture, and sustainability.
"Their passion for their fields and dedication to environmental initiatives left me inspired and optimistic about the future of our green industries.
"Since 2010 we've seen 5.7 million apprenticeship starts and with dedicated employers in exciting industries like the Eden Project, I look forward to seeing this number rise as more people climb the ladder of opportunity.”
Dawn George said: “Today has been a wonderful opportunity to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week and showcase our hard-working, enthusiastic and talented apprentices at the Eden Project.
“It’s been a real pleasure to welcome The Rt Hon Robert Halfon MP here and introduce him to just some of the inspiring individuals working to shape a brighter future through their apprenticeships.
“We are incredibly passionate about the unique range of apprenticeships we offer at Eden in partnership with Cornwall College, and Truro and Penwith College, which we have been offering for the past ten years. We are now looking forward to recruiting in the coming weeks for apprenticeships beginning in September.”
