Due to open to the public on Saturday 8 July, Nature’s Playground is set to be one of the biggest outdoor play areas in the South West and is the largest investment in Children’s outdoor play since Eden opened in 2001.
Images shared today show the giant Tree of Life Tower being lowered into position at the Eden Project. The nine-metre tower will form the focal point of the 500 sqm play area and will be visible from across the Eden Project site.
Eden Project Locals’ Pass holders and Members are being given the opportunity to be among the first to experience the playground. A limited number of exclusive slots are available to book for Members on 8 and 9 July, and Locals’ Passholders on 15 and 16 July.
Emma Evans, Eden’s Chief Marketing Officer, said: “The arrival of our Tree of Life is a momentous moment for our new play area. We can’t wait to welcome our first visitors to experience Nature’s Playground.
“Having the freedom and space to play has such a positive impact on children’s development, both physically and mentally. Combine that with being outdoors and in nature, with time away from screens, and the benefits are exponential.”
The Locals’ Pass gives residents of Cornwall and Devon unlimited entry to Eden until 31 March 2024 at a reduced price point compared to standard admission.
Added perks come from being a Member, including free entry for a family guest on every visit, discounts across Eden’s shops, restaurants and cafes, free entry to partner attractions in Cornwall during selected months of the year, and access to special events and previews.
Made from natural and sustainable materials, Nature’s Playground will feature slides, swings, ground-fed water play, a wood wide web and even a miniature clay quarry, all nestled within a woodland landscape around the Core building.
The playground has been designed by Bristol-based TouchWood Play to amplify inclusivity and accessibility with sensory and imaginative play woven into the design, and accessible activities and routes for wheelchair users and pushchairs to navigate.
Relaxed sessions are available to book over the summer for those who’d benefit from an environment with fewer people and those with autism, sensory or communication needs.
Nature’s Playground will take centre stage for a dedicated Summer of Play between 22 July and 3 September, with family-friendly activities, den building and games galore across the site.
Locals’ Passes are available to purchase now until 30 June 2023. Prices start from £11.00 for a child and £17.50 for an adult, with family packages, young adult and senior rates also available.
