Between checking his lists twice and putting on a show for families at the Eden Project, Father Christmas has been singing songs and telling stories to spread a little Christmas cheer for those who may not be able to make it to see him at Eden this year.
On Tuesday, December 10, the man in red paid a special visit to WILD Young Parents in Falmouth, a charity that has supported more than 15,000 young parents and children. The charity, which is based in Redruth, enables young families to build confidence and forge meaningful connections within their community.
Wednesday, December 11, saw a jampacked schedule for Father Christmas, starting with a festive singalong for under-fours at St Austell Library, followed by a very special visit to Little Harbour, part of the Children’s Hospice South West, based in Porthpean. Little Harbour provides a welcoming home-from-home for babies, children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and crucial support for their families.
Home-Start Kernow in Bodmin was the final stop on Father Christmas’ voyage before heading back to his musical studio at the Eden Project to finish preparing for the big day.
Simon Townsend, general manager at the Eden Project, said: “We believe in the power of connection and joy, especially during the festive season. These special visits by Father Christmas are our way of bringing a little extra magic to those who might not be able to come and see him at Eden this year.”
“We hope to spread warmth and cheer to our local community, during what can be a challenging time for many, and celebrate the amazing work these organisations do to strengthen and uplift our community.”
The visits were part of the Eden Project’s commitment to community-focused initiatives that foster wellbeing and connection to nature.
As part of this commitment, the Eden Project hosts annual community weekends, which provide free entry to NHS and blue light workers, care professionals, the armed forces, charity workers and volunteers on select dates, as well as discounted locals’ passes for residents of Devon and Cornwall.
This year, the Eden Project’s Christmas experience offers a host of magical activities, including ice skating, glittering light displays, and late-night openings to soak up the festive spirit right through to January 5. For the first time since 2019, the Eden Project will also be open on Boxing Day, making it an ideal destination for families and friends to continue their celebrations together.
During the Twixmas period, from December 26 to January 5 inclusive, Locals' Pass holders can bring a guest for free and enjoy a 10% discount across the Eden Project's hospitality and retail venues. Meanwhile, Eden Project Members can bring an additional guest for free alongside their regular guests and will receive an increased discount of 15% off food, drink and retail items.
