Earth Minutes, an environmental collective of young researchers and creatives, is hosting the Extreme Hangout to give young and underrepresented people a voice ahead of COP28, which is taking place in Dubai in December 2023.
The event will explore topics surrounding climate change through the lens of football, finance and music to encourage a cross-section of engagement and demonstrate its indiscriminate reach. It will be a celebration of youth voices within leadership, delving into the latest environmental research and action.
Through panel discussions, lively workshops and poetry readings, young voices and opinions will be taken forward to COP28 via the Children and Youth Pavilion in Dubai, where key messages to world leaders will be shared through a number of social media campaigns as well as on-the-ground at COP28.
Influential speakers at the Eden Extreme Hangout will include a mix of environmental scientists, influencers and activists, including Dr Natalie Cooper, senior researcher at the Natural History Museum, Jocelyn Longdon, founder of Climate in Colour, Nuriya Shoro, corporate development executive at WWF, Lira Valencia, visitor engagement ranger for London Wildlife Trust, and Elliot Arthur-Worsop, founder of Football For Future.
The Extreme Hangout was established in 2021 at COP26 in Glasgow as a platform to give young people a voice within the climate movement and drive action.
COP28 is the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Taking place between November 30 and December 12, 2023 in Expo City Dubai, the event strives to unite the world on bold and ambitious solutions to tackle the most pressing global challenges of our time.
Expo City Dubai is also home to Terra, the Sustainability Pavilion; a regenerative attraction and the first Eden Project-designed experience to open outside Cornwall.
Eden co-led the landscape design and visitor experience for Terra, which served as the centrepiece of Expo 2020 Dubai, welcoming 24 million visitors during the Expo’s 182-day duration.
It is now a permanent feature of Expo City Dubai, taking visitors on an immersive and emotive journey through humankind’s relationship with nature and our impact on it. Terra features a giant canopy of more than 4,000 solar panels, surrounded by 18 Energy Trees that rotate and follow the path of the sun, contributing to the attraction’s net zero ambition.
