Eden announced recently that the Eden Sessions series planned for this year (2020) would not take place due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic but would be rescheduled for next year.
Lionel Richie had been due to play in front of the Biomes on June 17, 2020.
Today Eden confirmed that the Session has been rescheduled and will now take place on June 9, 2021.
Eden is contacting all existing ticket purchasers with details. Original tickets remain valid for Lionel Richie and any other show that is rescheduled.
The global superstar, whose classic tracks include All Night Long, Dancing on the Ceiling and Hello, played two blockbuster sell-out shows at Eden in July 2016.
The concerts were hailed as among the greatest in the history of the Sessions and his return will be eagerly anticipated by his legions of fans.
David Harland, director of Eden Sessions Ltd, said: “We’re thrilled to confirm that Lionel will be returning to play at Eden next year. His stellar performances here a few summers ago created so many magical memories. We can’t wait to welcome Lionel back.”
Lionel Richie has four Grammys, a Golden Globe and an Oscar to his name and has sold well over 100 million albums worldwide. Sales of his latest album Hello from Las Vegas put him at Number One in the Billboard Artist 100 chart in August last year (2019).
The singer-songwriter from Tuskegee, Alabama first found fame singing and writing songs with The Commodores including the all-time classics Three Times A Lady, Stuck On You, Still, and Easy.
After turning solo, he became one of the most successful artists in the world, earning a string of 13 top ten hits between 1981 and 1987, including nine number one singles such as Endless Love, Truly, and Say You (Say Me).
Lionel Richie is the third Eden Session confirmed for the summer of 2021.
Eden has already confirmed that the My Chemical Romance Eden Session has been rescheduled and will now take place on June 15, 2021.
The first band to be reconfirmed was The Script, who will perform at Eden on July 14, 2021.
It has also been announced that Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds were unable to confirm Eden Sessions in the summer of 2021 so far ahead in time so their concert is now cancelled.
Last year’s epic Eden Sessions line-up saw Stereophonics, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Liam Gallagher, The Chemical Brothers and Kylie Minogue (two nights) play the Eden stage.
Also, to mark the 100th Session, Nile Rodgers and Doves led a galaxy of stars at a special anniversary show.
In September (2019) The Eden Project and global live events company AEG Presents announced a new partnership, Eden Sessions Ltd, to run the Eden Sessions.
