The flagship Kernow Learning Trust school and nursery welcomed its first children to the new school in September 2022. It’s the first of its kind for the home of the Biomes, which welcomes up to 36,000 school children and students onto the site every year to take part in a wealth of environmental education programmes.
The 27 Reception and nursery-age children were joined by 130 teachers, family, and friends of the school and the local community. Families joining the school in the new academic year, which will see the school grow to 44 children from nursery up to Year 1, also joined the festivities.
The celebration took place in the school’s Little Carne Meadow, which provides a bountiful outdoor environment for learning beyond the classroom. The children were joined by local musician, Will Keating, to perform their school song, while a cake and cream tea provided refreshments for attendees to enjoy the children’s first year of work, which was proudly on display around the Meadow and Giant Tipi.
Sky Primary’s Headteacher, Emma Vyvyan, said: “It’s been a year of astonishing firsts: first day, first term, first Christmas celebrations, but to reach this wonderful milestone of one full academic year as Sky Primary and Eden Project Nursery is such a special one.
“In this inaugural year alone, we’ve had so many incredible opportunities to place our school at the forefront of rethinking the national curriculum’s needs to be linked with climate and education, plus nature-inspired learning.
“Our partnership with the Eden Project has allowed us to serve as trailblazers alongside the likes of Lancaster University and its place-based sustainable Morecambe Bay Curriculum, the Chartered College of Teaching’s ‘Rethinking Curriculum’ project, and ‘Climate Wise Schools’ – a pilot project by Leeds Trinity University and Teacher Development Trust.
“We couldn’t be prouder of how engaged our children and their families have been and we look forward to continue growing with a new year group added each year.”

Sky Primary and Eden Project Nursery expects to move to its permanent home in West Carclaze Garden Village this time next year, where it will continue to grow yearly, eventually welcoming 210 children across Reception to Year 6 and up to 26 nursery-age children.
